MOTION # 4: This
motion is to formalize a ÒgentlemansÓ agreement in our district for racers running N-1
classes, previously agreed that racers in district 1 running N-1 classes ran
Ni-MH cells to keep racing costs low. Currently Li-PO batteries are legal in
all NAMBA classes up to 10,000 mah.
Current rule states :
N-1 Any ROAR-approved
stock .05 motor as defined by current ROAR
parameters. Power Limits: Up to 7.5 Volts nominal, any
chemistry. Maximum of 2 packs in parallel. Maximum
capacity of
10,000 mAh.
Proposed rule :
N-1 Any previously approved ROAR-approved stock BRUSHED .05 motor as defined by Previous ROAR parameters.
Power Limits: Up to 7.5 Volts nominal, any
Chemistry and a maximum amp draw rating of 100 amps ( + / - 10%) ie 5000 mah 20C cells = 100 amps, 4000 25c cells = 100 amps, 3300 x 30 c cells = 99 amps. The Goal is to replace NIMH over a gradual period while not making NIMH obsolete. Other rated packs can be proposed and may be accepted with a unanimous vote by all racers who have completed a full racing season running n-1 ( including kids class etc).
Reason:
With the costs coming down on Li-Po cells it is actually cheaper to buy them then Ni-MH cells, paralleling limits are removed as some racers will need to split packs (ie side by side etc) to be able to utilize lower cost packs.
Motion # 5
This Motion is to formalize the gentlemans agreement for the Limited spec classes such as LSO, LSH, and P-Spec Classes.
Current power rules state : that a Ò700Ó type brushed motor be used in LSO and LSH.
And Currently there are no National rules concerning ÒP-SpecÓ, just a general understanding between racers.
The motion wishes to formalize the generally accepted ÒunderstandingÓ for P-spec racing
P-Spec Power Specifications
1) Motor Specifications
The intent of the P-Spec Power Specifications is to define a motor package to be used in P-Spec and Limited class racing. These rules are intended to either supersede, or be in addition to, any rules pertaining to motors for a given class, as specified within the rules for that class.
Motors in these specifications shall be based on but not limited to readily available parts from past, current, and/or future Ready-to-Run offerings by various manufactures. Only motors on the approved motor list shall be allowed unless approved by the CD/ other racers of that class before the start of the first race . Other motors that meet similar specifications to the motors on the Approved Motor list may be considered at the discretion of the Club. Motors are intended to be used as they are supplied. Therefore, no alterations or modifications are allowed, unless specifically stated in these rules.
2) Approved Motors
The motors Generally approved for P-Spec racing are:
ProBoat
PBR3310 A3630-1500 6 pole brushless motor (BJ26, Formula FastTech, Miss Elam FE)
AquaCraft
AQUG7000 L36/56 7.2-18V 6 pole brushless motor (SV27)
AQUG7001 36-56-2030 6 pole brushless motor (UL-1 Superior)
Himax
HB3630-1500 Brushless – 6-Pole brushless motor (E-RCU Spec Motor)
Motors that will also be deemed acceptable are any style motor Out-runner or In-Runner motors that fall within the same Motor parameters, including size, weight wattage, and KV and has a listed retail price no more then 15% above the listed motors above and below.
Motors that exceed certain specifications ( ie maximum watts) but are deemed to be of excellent value, and will be allowed are the
Scorpion 3026-1600 OutRunner 6-Pole brushless motor
Scorpion 3026-1900 OutRunner 6-Pole brushless motor
3) Electronic Speed Controls (ESCs)
Electronic Speed Controls (ESCs) must be used and are open. No mechanical ESCs allowed.
6) Power Limits - Batteries
Batteries shall conform to NAMBA Electric Racing ÒPÓ class Power Limits:
Power Limits: 10.1 to
15 Volts nominal, any chemistry. Maximum of 2 packs in parallel. Maximum
capacity of 10,000 mAh
In District 1 we wish to utilize the Maximum capacity of 6500 mAh. And a maximum amp draw rating of 165 amps. Ie 25c batteries x 6500 mah capacity = 162.5 amps, 30 c Batteries X 5500 mah Capacity = 165 amps and so forth
Reason:
While there exists a national ÒunderstandingÓ racers outside our district are debating the pros and cons of various motors from RTR sources only, whilst that is an excellent means of finding affordable parts, it is limiting to other motors with similar sizes that are the same or even better then the proffered motors above. These motors are approximately the same unit cost and are of high quality, and we would like to formalize their use to enable further testing in a racing environment. While P-spec is a relatively new class replacing the LSO and LSH classes, the recent influx of low cost electric motors makes limiting the selection to a few select motors often available from limited sources makes the expansion of motor selection the only viable response to encourage low cost racing classes. Motors outside the above mentioned motors that have already run in the P-spec classes of the past racing season will be ÒgrandfatheredÓ in as long as it is being raced in the same boat. If The Motor needs to be replaced, then it is expected the replacement Motor would conform to the above specifications.
We wish to Òlock-InÓ current battery technologies to keep the cost of cells to all racers relatively low, while significant advances in battery technologies are happening on nearly a weekly basis, in order to best utilize the advantages this offers to Òlimited typeÓ racing, it has been decided to set the bench mark standard at the previous top standards, so as not to escalate unfair advantages that the latest and greatest ( and more expensive ) packs will provide. This change will keep an even playing field while affording new racers a chance to benefit from the ÒtodaysÓ sales prices of ÒyesterdaysÓ cells.
MOTION # 6: This motion is withdrawn, it was an Electric only Proposal
but it is felt that trial classes are able to be run, without formality and
will should not be included in a district point series.
MOTION # 7: This motion is put forth to limit the maximum voltage of Electric Powered Boats that run in A/B Mono and A/B Hydro to a maximum of 4s or 14.8V ( P- Power parameters under Electric Power specifications).
Reason: The current battery technologies have advanced significantly along with the increase in the efficiency of Brushless motors, makes the reduction of power necessary to Òeven the playing fieldÓ between electric and fuel powered in the A/B Classes.
MOTION # 8: This
motion is put forth to allow a two boat entry in a class to be considered a
legal class.
Reason: Current rules require at least three
boats to make a class, over the past few seasons there has been occasions where
two boaters are prepared to run the class, and for whatever reason the third (
or more ) racer has not shown up for the race, or is prepared to run the class.
This has required other boaters to quickly switch set ups and race ad hoc boats
just to enable the prepared racers to run or the class is dropped for the day.
It is felt this is not fair to the prepared racers as sometimes these racers
only run that 1 class, and the person who ÒdroppedÓ the class for the day is
not penalized if the class is dropped.
